Work Gloves - For Hard-Working Hands

Since there is an increasing consciousness of health and safety issues in employment and the work place, it is vital to do all that you can to ensure your welfare in every sphere. Amazingly, one of the greatest contributions you can make is as simple as wearing a sensible pair of work gloves - waterproof, leather, reinforced and many other features depending on the type of work you do and the situations in which you would be wearing these. For example, if you work for lengthy periods with vibration tools, then a reinforced pair of cowhide leather or goatskin gloves with a rubberised cuff would be a wise choice. If you need to wear gloves which are flexible and neat-fitting, choose a pair with a terry cloth backhand.

The type of your work will largely determine the style and type of glove you will wear. Where there is the requirement of maximum safety, for example if you are working with power tools or in an environment where there is a high risk of injury, you should consider heavy-duty cowhide leather or goatskin gloves with reinforced palms and thumbs. These are widely available in DIY outlets such as B&Q, Homebase, Home Depot or Lowes. DeWalt gloves, e.g. DeWalt DPG20L are a good choice for the discerning worker who wishes to minimise risk and ensure maximum protection. Do not take shortcuts and do not endanger yourself by inferior work gloves.

In many workplaces it is now a legal requirement to be suitably attired to comply with health and safety legislation. Because of widespread litigation it is advisable for employers to ensure that employees wear protective clothing where that is needed and the inclusion of equally suitable gloves is sometimes overlooked because ill-fitting gloves can interfere with that person's ability to do their job well and quickly. They can of course in themselves be a hazard, especially if working with machinery. However, this must be balanced with the overriding need of ensuring adequate protection at all times and the provision of suitable gloves will be a major step in ensuring that risk is minimised if not completely removed.

Time spent in the selection of good quality gloves, compatible with the work being carried out and the environment in which the work is being carried, will pay undoubted dividends, in terms of employee safety and comfort. It will also send the important message that the workers are valued as people and not merely as employees. This regard for health and safety should always be high on any employer's list of priorities. It is not an expensive inclusion in monetary terms and will make maximum provision for the health, safety and welfare of your workforce, which after all, is your most important resource.
